YOK

ISTANBUL'DAN

ISTANBUL'DAN
Fascinated by Istanbul’s artisan districts, the designers Laura Jungmann, Dorothee Mainka, Pierre Kracht, Jonathan Radetz, Florian Saul and Michael Wolke travel to Istanbul. Together they want to experience, what impact this work environment, the city as well as the traditional production structures have on the design process as well as on the design itself.

Many things might seem unusual in the city of two continents: the way people work for instance. The typical Turkish tea, the work bench as well as the few tools with which almost anything is feasible – multiple friendships and sympathies are cultivated while smoking a cigarette or drinking countless cays.
The side table Yok's construction with its interlocked stillage was achieved by converting Oriental ornaments into a connection piece. The local metal spinner produces a slab into which the joint is recessed and then galvanized in the backyard. The product demonstrates Istanbul 's artisanry – with its uncomplicated teamwork between various crafts – in a form-fit manner.
